Competency 1: Overview
What does it mean to partner with The QUESTion Project?
The 9 Core Competencies for Supporting Students’ Humanity come to life through the unique way
each of us as teachers naturally integrates them in our interactions with students. Thus, some
approaches and insights will feel more relevant than others. The purpose of these learning guides
is not to impose ideas of who and how you should be, but to allow you to further expand who
you already are and what you bring to students.
Each learning guide is divided into the following five-part structure, through which you will have
a chance to reflect on your experience and to learn about the experiences of other teachers:
- YOUR EXPERIENCE: Reflect on your experience as a student and/or as a teacher
- UNDERSTANDING: Develop your understanding of each competency as well as its evergrowing potential for students
- DOING: Explore actions and methods that are aligned with your own teaching style and
approach - BEING: Consider how you can more fully share with students your full humanity, by
exploring the dispositions, qualities, and ways of showing up that will deepen your
impact on students - INTEGRATION: Identify what methods or ways of being you want to integrate into your
teaching approach
